Welcome to Dubs Equestrian Riding Club......

Dubs Equestrian is based in Wigan and was founded in 2019. I wanted to create accessible events for grass root riders. The aim of every event is to create a relaxed, sociable and supportive atmosphere for all that attend. I held 3 seasonal Horse Camp days and monthly clinic sessions before COVID-19 struck! Everything came to an abrupt holt but an opportunity was given to reflect! I realised how important a supportive community was during lock down and I needed to bring this forward into my future events.

As we relaunched in August 2020 Dubs Equestrian Riding Club was born. This is a free riding club for all abilities ensuring a socially distance catch up with like minded people happens during each session. More opportunities are given to help individuals with positive mind set, discuss current issues in the industry and equine health care advice. I am blessed with a positive response and attendance since lock down and I know these events can just grow and grow.

The Coach behind Dubs Equestrian Riding Club

My name is Jane Weatherell I am a BHS Stage 3 Coach in complete Horsemanship with over 20 years experience of teaching a variety of horse and rider combinations. I specialise in building rider confidence and help them achieve their goals no matter how small. Teaching is a passion of mine and I never see it as a job. I continue to observe other coaches and experts to help me develop ideas and become the best I can be. As an BHS Accredited Professional Coach I am insured, DBS checked, First Aid trained and carry out annual continual development.

I really do believe in an holistic method of developing horse and rider. One method does not fit all and the horse's welfare always comes first. I do not believe in quick fixes as both horse and rider need to get fitter and stronger to carry themselves correctly. This in turn prevents soreness and lameness. All exercises carried out at the events are tried and tested to show great results and fun for both horse and rider.

Why Dubs Equestrian?

I am frequently asked why did you choose them name Dubs? To be honest it was a nickname I acquired at a previous employment. There were three Jane's in the same department. I was named JW which was shortened to J Dub then before I knew it I was being called Dubs. Another reason is no one can ever spells my second name correctly. It is a running joke with my friends and I never take it personally however to make things easier I decided on Dubs Equestrian.

How to join the Riding Club?

Anyone is welcome both mounted and on foot, following current COVID-19 guidelines. Thompson House Equestrian Centre in Standish has a delicious Stable Doors Cafe and a hot drink and cake is included in the monthly clinics. This allows the riding club members to catch up and cover any topics they need advice on. Guest speakers will be attending to discuss feeding advice, rider fitness, goal setting and positive mindset.

How do the sessions benefit your horse?

Riding in at a new venue allows your horse to habituate itself to a new environment and have a positive experience in preparation for a warm up arena or competition event. Thompson House Equestrian Centre allows the events to be run indoors so we can not be affected by the British Weather! Pole and grid work exercises are used at all events.

Pole work sessions develop the horse's core stability and works the top line, improving suppleness by encouraging the horse to step under with the hind leg. Different exercise plans are used at each event. Grid work is used to develop the rhythm and athleticism of the horse. Grid work exercises also allow the rider to develop their balance and position to assist the horses jumping.

Dressage Camp days include a test riding session. A dressage arena is set out including white boards and the warm plan for the best performance is discussed. Each participant rides through a test level of their choice and is judged with the score sheet filled in. Verbal feedback is given including written feedback to take home.

So whats in the goody bag!?!.......

Like anything in life you need a good team around you to be successful. I am lucky enough to have the support from Caroline Dickens (Baileys Horse Feeds North West Sales Manager) who provides everyone with a Baileys Horse Feeds goody bags which includes feeding information and a discount voucher on future purchases.

Sophie Edmonds from Eqcouture riding leggings provides 10% online discount voucher (Future blog). Rider fitness coaches that attend offer great training programs. There are lots more freebies and treats which are enjoyed with a glass of prosecco at the end of the Camp day.

Future Events

In all honesty the people and horses that attend the events make the day so special and enjoyable. I leave the day with a boost from eveyones energy. In such a short space of time the events discussed above have filled up fast with a waiting list which means I need to move on to the next stage of my plan. I am currently looking to host Dubs Equestrian events around the country. This is where your help is needed!

I need a selection of suitable and accessible venues near you. If you and your horsey friends would like to become members of the riding club and attend future events please done hesitate to get in touch.
